The Role

Content design is a critical role in designing government services. From designing: content strategy, to human narratives, micro copy to usability and user testing, it's a vital team role.

What you'll do

As a content designer, you will be responsible for:
•    making complex language simple to understand
•    helping to identify user needs and match them to the right kind of content
•    improving end-to-end journey of services, helping users to complete their goals
•    evaluating content based on user research and analytics data / ROT analysis 
•    experience of designing content to meet current accessibility standards and sees accessibility as a crucial design consideration
•    taking part in user research and working with multidisciplinary, agile teams to contribute to an overall user experience 
•    working closely with policy, legal and other expert colleagues to ensure content is accurate and consistent
•    scoping, writing, and editing content for complex internal and public-facing services 
•    monitoring the performance of content and tools, identifying ways to improve products and services
•    using style guides and applying editorial standards, like the Government Digital Service (GDS) standards
•    working as part of a multidisciplinary team to help identify user needs, write and map user stories, design content plans, and help to agree the right design approach
•    working with subject matter experts to make sure content is relevant and accurate 
•    working with colleagues to inform and persuade on the best content design approaches
